Since 1987 to 2012 Goran Končar directed the Zagreb Quartet and for the quarter of the century he embedded his skill and art into the existence of this oldest chamber ensemble, not only Croatian but European as well. Goran Končar is certainly one of the pivotal personalities in this tradition
Končar dedicated his attention to exploring the sound of historical instruments from Croatia and Bosnia and the special materials they are made of. In 2005 he initiated the founding of the Association of professional builders and restorers of stringed instruments in Croatia. The Association gathered builders of stringed instruments who continued the tradition of the famous Croatian builders such as Franjo Kresnik, Franjo Šnajderm, Julije Penzo and more.
